Harbourfront Condos & Real Estate Toronto

Harbourfront Condos & Real Estate TorontoMuch of the Harbourfront neighbourhood, south from Front Street between Bathurst Street and Yonge Street, was created from landfill during the early part of the 19th century. For more than 150 years, this stretch of the lake shore was a hard-working port, a tangle of railway tracks, cranes, freight yards, factories and warehouses — including the giant Queens Quay Terminal.

Throughout this time, the busy port facilities effectively cut the rest of the city off from the lake, but this was to change dramatically in 1972, with the creation of the federally-sponsored Harbourfront Corporation. Perhaps the most striking symbol of the renaissance that followed is the Terminal building itself. What was once North America’s largest warehouse was completely remodeled in 1982 to create a mixed-use building with offices, restaurants, high-end shops and exclusive condominiums beneath a single roof.

Today, the Harbourfront neighbourhood has been transformed into the city’s “playground by the lake” — a destination for tourists and Torontonians alike, drawn to the waterfront green spaces, the many cultural and recreational activities and events, the art galleries and theatres, and the shopping in specialty stores along Queens Quay West. The Harbourfront Centre alone is host to nearly 4000 events every year — from sailing lessons to jazz festivals — and Skydome, the CN Tower, the Air Canada Centre and the Harbourfront Antique Market are all located within the neighbourhood. In addition, St. Lawrence Market is within walking distance, and Toronto Islands are just a 10 minute ferry ride away. For those seeking a condo lifestyle, Habourfront has the city’s highest concentration of condominium buildings, virtually all constructed since 1980, with more under construction.

The Queens Quay streetcar is literally at the door of most buildings, connecting residents of Harbourfront condos to Union Station, the subway and GO Transit, while motorists have easy access into and out of the city via the Gardiner and Lake Shore Blvd.
