The Financial District Condos & Real Estate Toronto

The Financial District Condos & Real Estate Toronto

In 1796, the area now known as the Financial District was planned as an extension of the Town of York, with the unimaginative name of “New Town”. Today, the area bordered approximately by Queen Street West in the north, Front Street in the south, Yonge Street in the east and University Avenue in the west is the heart of the city’s downtown and the hub Canada’s financial business.

This is home ground for the heavyweights... banks, insurance companies, corporate HQs, stockbrokers, top-of-the-tree law and accounting firms, advertising agencies — located in soaring towers in the city’s most heavily built-up area.

Beneath the towers, another world awaits — the retail world of The Path, the pedestrian walkways that interconnect the towers. This underground smorgasbord of stores is one of the city’s most important shopping districts — bustling and vibrant through the week, but empty on weekends when the towers go quiet.

The financial district has seen a recent surge in construction of major condominium buildings... including three new luxury-class hotel-condominiums: the Ritz Carlton and the Residences at the Ritz Carlton; the Trump Tower; and Living Shangri-La Toronto.

With these new options added to newly converted mid-rise loft buildings on the periphery, more people will live and work in an area that sees an estimated 100,000 commuters arrive and depart every business day. Planning anticipates some 7000 condo units for the area — home for roughly 12000 new residents, with prices ranging from $800,000 to more than $1-million.

Union station on the south side of the Financial District provides the commuting conduit, with connections to GO Transit rail-and-bus services— while those who drive to work have access to all major highways.

With the Entertainment District virtually next door, and attractions such as Kensington Market, Chinatown and funky Queen Street West all nearby, residents of the Financial District condos have the best of the city at their disposal.
