Toronto Islands Homes & Real Estate

TorontoToronto Islands Homes & Real EstateHomes located on the Toronto islands are  difficult to own. With about 262 island homes and cottages on the 3 main islands, getting a home in this place requires a lot of patience. However, this seemingly difficulty in procuring a house on these islands does not necessarily come at a high cost. In fact, the price of these houses is quite reasonable. Once bought, there are some government-instituted regulations that limit how the house can be used. For one, the property on which the house sits still belongs to the Government of Ontario and the house must be the buyer’s year-round principle residence. In addition, there are limitations as to how much one can earn should he or she decide to sell the house or move to another location. This system has been in force since 1994 and it has allayed the uncertainty that used to prevail regarding the future of the residences.

The Toronto islands are located on Lake Ontario just offshore from the city center and are a popular recreational destination. They are connected to the mainland by ferry services. Toronto Islands are actually the largest car-free community in all of North America. Few service vehicles are permitted on the island. There are 2 schools and one church on the island. The north-western tip of the islands is occupied by the Toronto City Center Airport that is used for civil, private and flight training aviation. Besides the ferry, there are also several marinas and yacht clubs that provide private ferry services. There are also a series of waterways that allow boat traffic to navigate the islands.
