Little India Homes & Real Estate Toronto

Little India Homes & Real Estate Toronto

The Gerrard Street East / Little India neighborhood is a magnet for Toronto’s South Asian community and all who love the sights, sounds and tastes of Indian, Pakistani and Sri Lankan culture. Stretching along Gerrard from Coxwell Avenue in the west to Greenwood Avenue, Little India — also known as the Gerrard India Bazaar — is the second largest South Asian marketplace in North America, with more than 100 restaurants, cafés, clothing stores, video stores, and electronic goods stores.

This unique neighbourhood traces its beginnings back to 1972, when the Eastwood Theatre began to feature Bollywood films, attracting large numbers of Indo-Canadians from across the GTA. This steady traffic encouraged entrepreneurs to open stores in the area to cater to visitors, and over time the area expanded along Gerrard.

Today, Little India exudes a wonderfully exotic atmosphere, a street-party feeling, particularly at night when the street and stores are lit with strings of multi-coloured lights.

Little India has never developed into a South Asian residential enclave; it remains a commercial area — the Gerrard India Bazaar Business Improvement Area — home of the annual Diwali-Eid Festival that attracts visitors from across the continent to celebrate the Hindu Festival of Lights and the end of Ramadan.

The unique appeal of Little India and its thriving economy have contributed to the overall prosperity of the neighbourhood, making Little India real estate an attractive investment in a flourishing community.
