Davisville Village Homes & Real Estate Toronto

Davisville Village Homes & Real Estate

In 1840, just six years after the settlement of “Muddy York” became the infant city of Toronto, English immigrant John Davis began clearing land on the brow of a forested hill overlooking the distant lake. Today, the founder’s mark remains in the community’s name and in the former Post Office on the north-east corner of Yonge and Davisville, where he was the first Postmaster.

Modern-day Davisville Village reaches from Bayview Avenue west to Yonge Street, and south from Eglinton Avenue East to Mount Pleasant Cemetery. For buyers seeking to live within the Yonge corridor, Davisville homes are an attractively-priced entry point. Davisville homes were built mainly in the 1920's and 1930's, with those west of Mount Pleasant Road mostly large two and three-storey English Cottage, Tudor and Edwardian-style homes. East of Mount Pleasant Road, the homes are primarily smaller detached and semi-detached houses and bungalows. This part of the neighbourhood also contains a handful of historical homes from the late 1800's, as well as a growing number of custom built homes.

Many Davisville homes have undergone interior updating, yet original hardwood, baseboards, window frames, leaded glass windows, verandas and porches are still common in the neighbourhood. Smart “stacked” townhouse condos are located between Redpath Avenue and Lillian Street, while the abundance of condo developments on Merton and Balliol Streets and along Eglinton Avenue has earned the area the name of “Yonge and Eligible” for the high proportion of young singles who live here.

The area has always been a popular location for singles, young couples and families and, while not inexpensive, prices remain reasonable for this prime location. Average sold price for a detached home is in the range of $955,000; for a semi-detached, $652,000. Davisville homes provide ready access excellent recreational facilities and greenspace, superb shopping districts, and an active nightlife of pubs, restaurants and movie theatres.

Davisville Village's principal shopping district is on Mount Pleasant Road, highlighted by a variety of antique and collectable stores that attract shoppers from across Toronto. Home decorating stores, children's clothing and toy stores, and an excellent selection of restaurants all add to the ambience of this street. Residents also shop on Yonge Street and Bayview Avenue at a wide choice of gift shops, clothing and accessory stores, bakeries, cafes and coffee shops.

Public transportation includes local bus service on Mount Pleasant Road, Yonge, Davisville and Eglinton — all connecting to the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line. Motorists have quick access to downtown Toronto via either Mount Pleasant or Yonge,, with Highway 401, Don Valley Parkway and Lakeshore Boulevard all within a twenty minute drive of Davisville homes.
