Deer Park Homes for sale and Real Estate Toronto
The First Nations people referred to Deer Park as "Mushquoteh", which means a meadow or opening in the wood where deer come to feed- quite a name that. The Heath family purchased acres of land in "Mushquoteh" in 1987 and appropriately named their estate Deer Park. And so it is known up to now.
By the early1850's, the Deer Park area had grown to include a handful of country villas, a general store, a school, a cemetery, a race track, and a hotel that was located at the intersection of Yonge and St. Clair. Deer Park Hotel patrons used to delight in feeding the deer that roamed on the hotel grounds.
By the time Deer Park was annexed to the City of Toronto in 1908, the deer were long gone. Deer Park grew fast in human habitation after annexation. Come the 1930's, the Deer Park neighbourhood became established as one of Toronto's finest and most-sought-after residential districts.
The difference between Deer Park and many upscale Toronto neighbourhoods is that its homes are not isolated on the periphery of the neighbourhood. The residential streets overflow onto either Yonge Street or St. Clair Avenue, right into the heart of one of Toronto's busiest shopping, entertainment, and business districts. This makes it not only more close-knit but also very secure.
Apart from the commercial centre, this neighbourhood is surrounded by lush green parkland, majestic trees, and the Vale of Avoca Ravine.
Deer Park residents enjoy the convenience of Yonge and St. Clair shopping district which is known for its many fine restaurants. Shoppers from all over the city are attracted by the high profile retailers in this area.
Residents can find most of the local staple and grocery stores inside the St. Clair Centre, the Towne Mall or at the Delisle Court.
