Lawrence Park Homes for sale and Real Estate

Lawrence Park Homes & Real Estate TorontoIn the early years of the 20th century, the area east from Yonge Street to Bayview Avenue, and north from the Blythwood Ravine to Lawrence Avenue, was undeveloped land on the northern outskirts of a young city. In 1907, the area was subdivided and plans were laid to create one of the city’s first high-class “garden suburbs”, centered on Mount Pleasant Road.

The neighbourhood developed slowly, with many stops and starts. Most of the older, larger homes were built in the 1920s and ‘30s, but the Lawrence Park neighbourhood was not fully developed until the 1950s.

The gradual development over 50 years is reflected in the architectural mix. Original Lawrence Park homes near Rosedale Golf Club and Riverview Drive Ravine are typically Tudor or Georgian style, with Edwardian style more prevalent closer to Yonge. Large, luxury-class homes are here, and so too are medium-sized houses on narrow but deep lots. Houses are typically very well maintained, with many having undergone careful renovation; however, recent years have seen some older homes replaced with large modern rebuilds.

Lawrence Park’s winding streets remain surprisingly quiet and traffic free — due to the location of schools and shopping at the Yonge Street and Avenue Road boundaries of the community, rather than within.

Considered one of Toronto’s upscale neighbourhoods, Lawrence Park is a sought-after address for its proximity to numerous parks and many upscale amenities, including Havergal College private school for girls... Lawrence Park Collegiate, one of the Toronto’s best public schools ... The Toronto French School... Glendon College... The Rosedale Golf Club... and The Granite Club.

Average sale price for a Lawrence Park home in 2008 was $749,936.
