Moore Park Homes & Real Estate Toronto

Moore ParkIn the late 19th century, Markham-born businessman, John Thomas Moore, had a grand vision for the area immediately north of present-day Rosedale. His dream was a new, highly exclusive Toronto suburb for the very wealthy. To attract investors and buyers, Moore poured his money into construction of the Belt Line Railway, the city’s first commuter train, and built bridges on St. Clair and Moore Avenue. Sadly for John, his timing was disastrous. Toronto entered a catastrophic Depression and the Belt Line was forced into bankruptcy. Construction of Moore Park homes did not begin until the early 1900s, and development was not completed until the 1930s.

The neighbourhood that bears John Moore’s name is bordered on all sides by natural boundaries. To the north, Mount Pleasant Cemetery. To the south, Park Drive Ravine and the railway tracks. To the east, Moore Park Ravine... and, to the west, the Vale of Avoca Ravine. Access to Nature on the doorstep is one of the great appeals of Moore Park homes—notably, the 8-kilometer Moore Park Ravine nature and fitness path that passes through Rosedale Ravine, historic Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, and the old Don Valley brickworks.

Houses on the quiet winding streets of the Moore Park neighbourhood are among the most attractive in the city, featuring a mix of early-20th-century Tudor, Georgian and English cottage styles on large lots, with many enjoying ravine views. There are also a number of more recent luxury townhomes and duplexes.

Many Moore Park homes share driveways—a legacy from John Moore’s original commuter-friendly vision—but street parking is seldom a problem. For today’s commuters, Moore Park has bus service on St. Clair Avenue, Mount Pleasant Road and Moore Avenue. The Yonge and St. Clair subway station is within walking distance of many, and drivers have ready access to the Bayview Extension and Don Valley Parkway.

Excellent shopping is nearby in the Yonge/ St. Clair or Mount Pleasant/Davisville shopping districts, both well regarded for gourmet food shops and fine dining. The Yonge/St. Clair area also has a wide variety of business and medical services, boutiques, and groceries catering to the busy professional. Moore Park residents in the more secluded south-east pocket can also walk across a railway overpass to the collection of neighbourhood stores on Summerhill Avenue.

House prices in Moore Park range from low-medium to luxury levels. For current information on available listings for Moore Park homes and real estate, please see the column at the left of this page. Listings are updated daily, so we recommend that you bookmark this page and check back frequently.
