Corso Italia Homes & Real Estate Toronto
First home for the largest wave of Italian immigration in Canada’s history, Toronto’s Corso Italia on St. Clair Avenue West, between Westmount and Lansdowne Avenues should perhaps now be named Ruas Português, or even Brasileiro. In a demographic shift typical of the city, the Corso’s long-time inhabitants have moved up and out, making space for new waves of immigration.
This vibrant, friendly neighborhood is contained in the larger neighborhood of Corso Italia-Davenport, bounded in the west by the CNR tracks, in the north by a line north of Morrison Avenue, in the east by Westmount and Oakwood Avenues, and to the south by Davenport Avenue.
Many Corso Italia homes were built in the first half of the 20th century and are typically simple detached and semi-detached brick houses with gable, bay window and porch. Many have undergone extensive internal renos, with exteriors detailed with flourishes of wrought iron and fronted with lovingly tended gardens.
Compared to other areas of the city, Corso Italia homes and real estate can be purchased relatively inexpensively. Prices start around $300,000 for a detached home, increasing to the south and east. Some sub-$300,000 semi-detached units can still be found at the western edge, specifically on McRoberts Avenue, a quiet street that borders peaceful Prospect Cemetery.
If the proposed Eglinton Crosstown light rail plan becomes reality, Corso Italia will become that much more desirable—prices are already creeping toward the million-dollar mark at the Oakwood–Davenport edge—giving Corso Italia homes and real estate attractive potential for investors.
