Liberty Village Homes & Real Estate Toronto

“Liberty Village” is not an historical name for this neighbourhood. The name came into use quite recently as a “brand” for property owners and developers wishing to distinguish the area of rebirth from Parkdale, which begins west of Dufferin Street. The Liberty Village neighbourhood is bordered by King Street West on the north, Dufferin Street on the west, Gardiner Expressway on the south, Strachan Avenue on the east, and by the CP railway tracks on the northeast.

Once a hive of industry, with shoulder-to-shoulder factory buildings employing thousands of Torontonians, Liberty Village today is a shining example of urban transformation — with warehouses and factories taking on new life as commercial and residential properties. None rates as an architectural masterpiece, but renovations such as Toy Factory Lofts on Hannah Avenue offer spectacular proof that undistinguished industrial buildings can be rejuvenated into thoroughly urban residential/commercial, live/work complexes, with old and new integrated seamlessly.

The ongoing gentrification of downtown Toronto is spreading west, spurring rapid development, and Liberty Village is becoming a trendy neighbourhood for young professionals—with a growing population of Canadian and US art and design firms, attracted in part by the easy access to downtown. New restaurants have opened and new storefronts are planned for the area, as are upscale condos and a canopied walkway modeled after a Milanese arcade.

The offices are concentrated mostly in the west end of Liberty Village, with new condo developments primarily focused on East Liberty Street east of Hanna Avenue.

The healthy growth of this new neighbourhood opens attractive potential for investors in residential and/or commercial development.
