Niagara Toronto Homes & Real Estate
The Niagara neighbourhood along and south of Queen street West is bordered by Atlantic Avenue to the west, Bathurst Street to the east, and the railway corridor to the south. Named for Niagara Street that runs through the centre, this part of downtown Toronto has a history dating back to 1793, when it was part of a military garrison for the fledgling Town of York. Old Fort York still stands on Garrison Road, between Bathurst and Strachan Avenue.
Located close to the city’s Fashion and Entertainment districts, Niagara homes and real estate offer an eclectic mix of types and styles: single story workers’ cottages... bay-and-gable Second Empire homes from the 1870s and 80s... industrial buildings converted to lofts and condos... new townhouses... and condominiums both older and new.
Current prices range from around $404,900 for a two-bedroom-plus-den in the novel 550 Wellington West condo-hotel complex to $750,000 for a large four-bedroom Niagara home. The neighborhood also has bargain zones: for example, the older condos on the 700 and 800 blocks of King, between Niagara and Bathurst, tend to be more affordable.
The residential area is largely centered around Stanley Park, with its community centre, baseball diamonds, basketball court, soccer field, children's playground and splash pool. The popular Fort York historic site is nearby, just south of the railway tracks, and Skydome, Exhibition Place, the Harbourfront, and the Toronto Islands ferry are all within easy reach.
Drivers are just minutes from downtown, Lake Shore Boulevard and the Gardiner Expressway, and the area is will served by streetcar service along Queen, King and Bathurst streets.
